Having a good family holiday can seem complicated and even impossible when you leave with your children.
We’ve been looking forward to them, often for a long time… Far be it from us that this moment, supposed to be pleasant, turns into a nightmare.
We, too, have tested the family holidays. Here are some of our tips for having a good time with your family during the holidays.
Thanks to these few simple tricks, it’s up to you to make your holiday unforgettable moments and … relaxing!
And keep in mind while reading this article that family holiday memories are precious, take good care of them!
1 / Putting tranquility on the agenda
When you decide to go on holiday,it’s basically to relax and rest. But the reality, especially when you’re in charge of a large family, is that a trip can be far from a fun game.
Even being under the sun and feet in the water (or snow), it is sometimes difficult to relax (mum’s speech 🙂
Taking care of your children all day long is indeed a full-time job… who never takes time off.
However, having a good family holiday is not mission impossible.
A trip to a heavenly place with your children will only be enjoyable if you force yourself to adopt the right state of mind from the start.
Getting out of your comfort zone can be scary, it’s true.
But children feel the stress of the parents, so you have to try to take it as much as possible to keep calm whatever the situation.
Easier said than done! especially in traffic jams, overcrowded trains or airport expectations… For these moments of waiting, we take out our weapon: our WanderWorld travel diary!
Strive to consider this family adventure as a unique moment to get away from the daily grind, not as a chore.
Of course the organization is an essential ingredient for a successful family holiday. Be aware, however, that nothing will be as you planned. Give way to the unknown, let yourself be surprised. I swear we’re getting a taste for it.
Would you like to turn your family vacation into an unforgettable one?
Here are some tips to maximize your chances of making your vacation with your toddlers the best of your life for them as well as for you 🙂
2/ Choose a holiday destination that suits everyone.
Sometimes parents tend to focus on places that have always made them dream.
However, children will be an integral part of the adventure. Therefore, their presence must also be taken into account.
Don’t forget that going with your family also means being able to offer activities suitable for the youngest. We must not forget that they too would like to have a good time.
Is embarking on a journey to the end of the world with two young children really feasible? The road trip you’ve always dreamed of can probably wait… that they grow up.
Sometimes you have to revise down your requirements to guarantee all family members a real successful holiday. This rule applies to parents of young children as well as parents of pre-teens or teens.
Indeed, nothing worse than a vacation with a teenager who would spend his time on his phone or who would make the head.
For example, a trip to the Nice hinterland can be negotiated with teenagers with an outing in Monaco and take full view in front of yachts and other cars.
Ditto for Barcelona, where a visit to Casa Battlo can be negotiated with an afternoon beach or a visit to the FC Barcelona stadium. I promise it will work :-).
3/ Organize upstream – concrete organization!
Preparation upstream is necessary if you want to have a good family holiday.
The “blind” holiday with only the destination as a reflection may turn vinegar.
Spend some time (thank you Google) creating an itinerary tailored to the desires and needs of each member of the family.
For example, planning a full day in museums is suicidal when children are really young. It is better to combine a visit followed by a recreational activity or vice versa.
Keep in mind that more and more museums are thinking about our little blonde heads and offering fun tours. Like for example here at the Musée d’Orsay.
Always keep in mind that children need to let off steam, so it’s better to plan rather than have to deal with angry children.
Traveller blogs or guides are a great help in finding the right deals.
For trips with baby, take the time to find out before departure about everything the accommodation can put at your disposal (pussette, high chair, small pots …). This will prevent you from arriving and having to go shopping.
It is also important to know the accessibility of the places you have planned to visit. Sometimes it’s better to leave without a stroller but with a baby carrier. Nothing worse, for example, than visiting Paris with a stroller… unless you don’t take the subway!
4/ Plan music
It is said that music softens morals… There’s nothing better to brighten up car travel and avoid monumental disputes than to turn on the radio car.
You can plan a play list “special holidays” with all the hits that we enjoy singing at the top of our head… especially in traffic jams! I can tell you that it changes our lives and allows us to create so many unforgettable memories.
This play list is also very useful for rainy afternoons or to improvise mini booms on the way back from the ride.
You can also plan a little softer music for the quiet moments essential to spend a good family holiday with the little ones.
We also recommend CDs books that kids love and that allow parents to take a breather.
You’ll find some great ones on: https://www.oxybul.com/Recherche/livre-cd.
Bloom Children’s Radio offers (smart) audio content suitable for younger people.

5/ Thinking about moments as a couple
Do you choose a club holiday? Then you will easily find a time to think a little about yourself while the children are being cared for.
The small aperitif on the terrace or the massage by the pool stretch your arms.
Take advantage of these moments tolet it take and enjoy the moment.
Booking unique and intimate times is paramount. If you manage to unwind, the whole family will be relaxed, this is also the secret to having a good family holiday.
If you’re on the go without a babysitter on hand, don’t forget to take a break. Remember to ask where you are staying if they do not offer this service.
To be able to relax quietly and offer you this little drink without having to get up a hundred times, it is suggested that you always have a “creative kit” in your backpack.
Slide sheets of paper, felts, playing cards. You can also invite them to make a diary of their trip. They will create an object with their hands that they will keep as an authentic souvenir of their family vacation.
A cartoon on the phone can also save you the day and allow you a little moment of well-deserved relaxation.
